Short Description
The golden oriole is bright yellow with a red bill.
Males are bright yellow with black wing and tail feathers.
Females are yellow to greenish-yellow with brown upper parts and pale dark-spotted underparts.
Juvenile females are initially pale green, turning more yellow with age.

Golden orioles are migratory birds that can be seen in Germany from May to September. Their winter quarters range from eastern to southern Africa.
The German name “Pirol” originates from a 14th century play on words and refers to the bird’s distinctive song.
