The marsh warbler is small and inconspicuous. It has grey-brown upper parts and yellowish-white underparts. Its throat is whitish. Its bill is comparatively long and pointed.

In the city

The marsh warbler is not a typical urban bird. It lives in moderately damp areas covered in thick reed beds, but also in dry areas with bushes and hedges. In the latter, it prefers dense stinging nettles.

Because suitable habitats have been lost to building activities, marsh warblers are now classified as endangered in Berlin.
