Short Description

The tree slug grows up to five centimeters long and has a gray-beige ground color. It has a light central stripe and two dark lateral stripes on the upper side of the body. The underside (sole) is light gray. From the middle of the body, the tree snipe has an edge along the dorsal line (keel).

In the city

The tree slug lives in deciduous and mixed forests, especially under the bark of dead trees. More rarely, it is also found in gardens. When damp, it climbs up rocks, walls and tree trunks.

  • The tree slug eats algae, lichens and fungi that it finds on the bark of trees.

  • It lives up to three years.

  • The respiratory opening in slugs is always on their right side.

  • Tree slugs belong to the air-breathing land snails. These are hermaphrodites, i.e. they have female and male sexual characteristics.
