Short Description
The wild strawberry can grow up to 30 cm high.
The leaves grow in a rosette near the ground. A leaf consists of three completely separate sections. The leaf margin is finely serrated.
The stem is shortened and hairy. It lies on the ground and usually forms runners.
The flower has a long stem and five white petals. The centre of the flower is yellow.
A red pseudo-fruit develops from a flower and is called a "strawberry". Botanically speaking, however, it is not a berry, but a fruit with numerous small yellowish nutlets. The red edible fruit axis is therefore the thickened flower base on which the nutlets sit.
