Short Description

The smooth rupturewort is yellowish green and can grow up to 30 cm long.

The small leaves have entire margins and are oval to elongated. They are opposite in pairs, at least in the lower part of the stem.

The stem lies on the ground and roots in places. It is hairless.

The flowers are very small and inconspicuous. They have five white petals, but these can often be missing.

The fruits are rough nuts with one seed.

In the city

In the city, the smooth rupturewort is quite common. It can adapt well to urban conditions and is usually found between paving stones. It prefers sandy and nutrient-poor sites.

  • The whole plant is extremely step-resistant.

  • The flowering period is from June to October.

  • In folk medicine, a tea made from rupturewort is used for bladder and ureteral diseases.

  • It lives for several years and generally flowers and fruits annually (perennial plant).
