Short Description

Pineapple-weed can grow half a meter high. It is glabrous and smells aromatic.

The leaves are finely divided and somewhat fleshy.

The stem grows branched and ascending.

The plant forms mostly terminal flower heads, which could be mistaken for a single flower. In fact, they consists of very many small yellow-green tubular flowers that form a cone-shaped flower head.

The plant develops small, nut-like closing fruits.

In the city

It grows on lawns and paths, especially in urban areas. It prefers open, dense, nitrogen-rich soils and is very common.

Fun Facts

  • The flowering period is from June to August.

  • When wet, the fruits slime, then stick to shoes and can be spread over long distances.

  • It smells like the chamomile. However, it does not have white ray florets, but only yellow-green tubular florets.

  • It is an annual plant. This means the plant dies in the first year after the maturation of the seeds.
