Short Description
The wild garlic can grow up to 70 cm high.
The grey-green, hairless leaves are hollow and round. The upper side is grooved. They enclose the stem with the leaf sheath about to the middle.
The stem grows upright.
The flowers have six reddish or greenish-white petals. They sit on long stems in spherical umbels. These often have no flowers, but many already sprouting bulbs.
The fruits are three-part capsules. However, the reproduction of the plant is mainly ensured by the formation of brood bulbs.

It prefers nutrient- and nitrogen-rich soils. It often finds this in the city. It grows mainly in park lawns, on orchard meadows and along roadsides.
Fun Facts
The plant reproduces mainly vegetatively via breeding bulbs. In contrast to seeds, in which the genetic material is recombined, breeding bulbs contain the same genetic material as the mother plant.
It can impart a garlicky flavour to the milk of grazing animals.
The flowering period is from June to August.
It lives for several years and generally flowers and fruits annually (perennial plant).

The young leaves can be used like chives, the bulbs like spring onions and garlic.
