Short Description

The bladder campion can grow up to 50 cm high.

The leaves are opposite each other. They are mostly narrowly lanceolate and pointed.

The stem is usually richly branched and hairless.

The flowers consist of five white to light pink petals. They are surrounded by a puffy, reticulated calyx. Usually only male or only female flowers are found on a plant. The anthers protrude from the male flowers and the stigmas from the female flowers.

The fruit is an ovoid capsule fruit. It has small teeth on the upper edge.

In the city

In the city, it is common along roadsides, on meadows and on railway property. It prefers dry and sunny sites with nutrient-rich, calcareous soils.
