Short Description

The red sand spurrey vetch can grow up to 15 cm long.

The small leaves are oblong, linear-lanceolate and pointed. They are opposite each other in pairs on the stem.

The stem usually lies on the ground. It is glandular in the upper part.

The flowers are small and have five pink petals.

The fruits are small ovoid capsules.

In the city

In the city, the red sand spurrey is often found on compressed and acidic soils. These include paths and areas near banks. It prefers fresh and nutrient-rich sites with sandy loam soils.

Fun Facts

  • The flowering period is from May to September.

  • The flowers pollinate themselves in unfavourable weather.

  • It tolerates some salt and can therefore also colonise the edges of roads that are gritted in winter.
