Short Description
Swedish whitebeam can grow up to 20 m tall. Its dome-shaped crown is densely leaved. It can occasionally grow as a shrub.
The leaves are oval and alternate. The margins are generally incised and lobed. The leaves can be indented up to a third of the side of the leaf (pinnatifid). The leaf margins are irregularly sharply serrated.
The bark is initially grey-brown and smooth. Later it develops a flat scaly outer bark.
The whitish flowers are clustered in upright corymbs (the flower heads).
The fruits are spherical to ovulate pomes (apple-like fruit). They are greenish to start with and redden with ripening.

Swedish whitebeams are popular in parks or as ornamental trees. They prefer semi-shaded, warm sites.
Fun Facts
Swedish whitebeam is a triple hybrid between the rowan (Sorbus aucuparia), the chequer tree (Sorbus torminalis) and the common whitebeam (Sorbusaria).
It flowers from May to June.
The fruit ripening season is in October.

The species is native to Scandinavia.
The fruits are edible and can be made into juice or jam.
