In the city
In an urban environment, teals are found on ponds and lakes in parks. As urban birds, they often hibernate in Germany.
Fun Facts
The common teal is the smallest duck species in Europe.
Feeding wild fowl with bread or similar poses a great risk to animals and water. For that reason, feeding is forbidden.
Common teals are active during day and night. In winter, they tend to look for food at night.
ommon teals can be observed in Germany from early April to the middle of October; as migratory birds, they tend to hibernate in the south. However, in urban settings, increasing numbers of them can be observed all year round.
- Endangerment level Germany: endangered
