Short Description
The small bird takes its name from the wagging movement of its long tail. Its plumage is black, white and grey. On comparatively long legs, it frequently hops or walks on the ground.

In the city
The white wagtail prefers habitats close to water, but can also be found in inner cities and on rubbish dumps. It likes to nest in man-made structures such as in wall recesses, on roofs, window sills or artificial nesting aids. In urban areas, in particular, it happens increasingly often that white wagtails stay for the winter and do not migrate south.
Fun Facts
The white wagtail is a migratory bird that flies to southern or south-western Europe or central Africa over the winter. From March to October, it can be observed in Germany.
In Berlin, the population of the currently semi-common bird is falling.
